As a School of Engineering and Applied Science, we are fortunate to attract students and faculty from diverse backgrounds, from across the country, and from around the world. The end result is that you can encrypt a message so that people know you send it, and mail sent to you can only be read by you. It is an asymmetric key (public key) encryption scheme. PGP is an acronym for Pretty Good Privacy. Today it is used to secure many other things. Phil Zimmerman invented PGP to help encrypt e-mail.
